Cancer survivorship focuses on the physical, mental, emotional, social, and financial health and wellbeing of a person with cancer from diagnosis through the end of life. Survivorship and palliative care improve the quality of life for patients, their family and caregivers across the cancer continuum.
The Virginia Cancer Survivorship Roundtable (VCSRT) was established to address the Virginia Cancer Plan goal to “optimize the quality of life for patients and caregivers across the cancer continuum.” The task force has over 40 members including cancer survivors representing 20 organizations across the Commonwealth.
Objectives
- Facilitate partnerships across Virginia to enhance shared knowledge and best practices in providing survivorship programs.
- Decrease disparities relating to access and participation in survivorship programs.
- Provide education to physicians, other healthcare providers, government officials, and the public about the standards and needs for survivorship programs.
- Advocate for changes to reduce the financial burden of cancer treatment and care.
