Virginia Cancer Plan Implementation Grants

CACV periodically offers grant funding to support programs and projects that align with
the different goals, objectives and strategies outlined in the Virginia Cancer Plan. It is only together that we can address and reduce the burden of cancer across the Commonwealth of Virginia.


Previous Grant Funded Projects

FY25 Funding: Group Psychosocial Support

  1. ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation: Provide Community and Connections programs which provide a supportive community where individuals can connect with others facing similar challenges while fostering a sense of understanding and belonging.
  2. Carilion Clinic: Create a weekly support program for cancer survivors where participants will acquire knowledge and practical health and wellness tools for navigating the experience of cancer from diagnosis and treatment to remission, cure, and survivorship.
  3. Inova: Deliver an 8–10 week educational series focused on women’s sexual health after cancer.
  4. Sentara: Create a virtual and in-person psychosocial support group for cancer patients and survivors.
  5. Virginia Hospital Center: Provide a Cancer Survivorship Retreat offering education and psychosocial support to cancer survivors and caregivers.

FY24 Funding: Group Psychosocial Support

  1. Here for the Girls: Develop and deliver a research-based member and caregiver
    psychoeducational virtual support series.
  2. Inova: Deliver an 8-10 week educational series focused on men’s sexual health
    after cancer.
  3. Nueva Vida: Develop virtual psychosocial support groups specifically designed
    for uninsured immigrant Latina metastatic breast cancer survivors and young
    Latina cancer survivors.
  4. VCU Massey Cancer Center: Provide evidence-based nutrition education with a registered dietitian tailored to cancer prevention and survivorship including vouchers for affordable fresh produce from Shalom Farms.

FY23 Funding: Address Structural Barriers to Cancer Screening and Treatment

  1. Ballad Health: Provide direct transportation assistance to help remove barriers to screening or treatment in Southwest Virginia.
  2. Neighborhood Health: Provide transportation to low-income, uninsured patients to complete their mammograms or colonoscopies.
  3. Nueva Vida: Provide transportation, culturally appropriate navigation to increase breast cancer screening to under-resourced and uninsured Latina women.
  4. Riverside Health: Increase access to cancer imaging and/or treatment in the Eastern Shore community by providing transportation assistance to patients in need.
  5. VCU Massey Cancer Center: Alleviate transportation and lodging burdens for patients to receive screening, treatment, survivorship care and clinical trial participation.
