Purpose
The Advocacy/Policy Committee provides direction, planning, and general oversight to policy issues that relate to reducing the burden of cancer. By monitoring emerging issues and research evidence, committee members seek engagement and advocacy in policy initiatives that will further reduce the incidence of cancer in the Commonwealth as outlined in the Virginia Cancer Plan.
Guiding Principles
CACV supports legislative initiatives that:
- Directly address the goals and strategies enumerated in the Virginia Cancer Plan.
- Support Virginians in all stages of the cancer continuum – prevention and risk reduction, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and palliative care, as well as pediatric, adolescent and young adult cancers.
- Enable Virginians to receive cancer screening and treatment regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
- Further cancer research initiatives at Virginia-based research institutions.
