Quarterly Meetings

Cancer Action Coalition of Virginia (CACV) quarterly meetings are open to all members and visitors on the second Thursdays of March, June, September and December. Each year, two of the quarterly meetings use videoconferencing to reduce travel time and cost. Regular videoconferencing sites are Fairfax, Newport News, Big Stone Gap, Martinsville and either Charlottesville or Richmond. Action teams meet by conference call, at quarterly meeting sites or together as possible.

The National Tissue Bank Initiative: Why Should I Care? is the program topic for the quarterly meeting Thursday, September 13. Panelists will be Anil Wali, PhD, Program Director for the NCI’s Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities; Chris Moskaluk, MD, PhD, Chair, Department of Pathology, and Director, Biorepository & Tissue Research Facility, UVA; Vicky Carr, MEd, 3-year breast cancer survivor active in several breast cancer organizations, including the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, and Carlin Rafie, PhD, Massey Cancer Center, VCU, CACV board member, moderator. The panel will discuss the tissue bank initiative, its purpose and its possibilities for the future of cancer care as well as answer questions.
